Goodwill SWFL Temporarily Closes Doors at Most Retail Locations until Further Notice

FORT MYERS, Fla. - March 25, 2020 - PRLog -- As of 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida (SWFL) will temporarily close their retail stores, except the stores in the smaller Immokalee and Clewiston communities where severely limited resources make access to Goodwill merchandise essential.

"Our focus now, as always, is on the delivery of mission services," says John Nadeau, Goodwill SWFL President & CEO. "We are having to make important decisions regarding operations during these unprecedented times, and those decisions are based on the desire to continue providing services to our community while keeping our stakeholders safe."

Last year, Goodwill SWFL provided valuable services to more than 25,000 people with disabilities and disadvantages to help them overcome barriers and improve employability. Expectations are that the need for employment services and ACCESS assistance will dramatically increase over the coming weeks as more people are affected by the current situation. For the time being, Job-Link and Community Resource Center personnel have switched to virtual and remote assistance "only" in order to enhance safety. Those needing assistance, can contact their local Goodwill service center by phone. Details on specific site numbers are available online at www.GoodwillSWFL.org.

Since 1966, Goodwill SWFL retail sales have funded community services and staff. With the retail operation temporarily halted, Nadeau says donations and online shopping will be more important than ever for them to continue supporting the community.

Donations can be dropped off at Goodwill store donation doors and at Attended Donation Centers (ADCs), except at the ADC located at 4755 Tamiami Trail in the Midway Plaza, Naples. That ADC will be closed until further notice. At this time, eleven donation door sites and all of the remaining ADCs will be staffed daily from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. in Lee, Collier, and Charlotte counties. Donors can still drop off at unattended stores in "self-service" containers located near the donation drive-throughs. Additionally, limited home pickups are still available. Call (239) 652-1600 to schedule a home pickup.

Until stores reopen, shoppers are encouraged to continue shopping Goodwill online at www.goodwillswfl.org/shoponline/. Items located in Southwest Florida can be picked up at the Opportunity Center at 5100 Tice Street in Fort Myers. Buying local, shoppers can support local programs, and save on shipping. Monetary donations can also be made online to help those in need access assistance.

For updates on any changes, check their website at www.GoodwillSWFL.org and on social media. Goodwill SWFL thanks the community for continuing to support their mission.
