ATLANTA - March 4, 2020 - PRLog -- In a story that's far from unique in the urban American experience, Rodney Franklin was sentenced to 20 years in prison at the age of 17 after spending half of his childhood in the foster care system, and the other half of his childhood in the streets of East Atlanta. In a day he will never forget, the very day that this daughter turned one, Rodney was shipped off to Macon State Prison. For many men this would be the end but Rodney has proven hope and growth can be found even in the most adverse of situations. In a remarkable sign of willpower and drive, since being incarcerated, Rodney has turned his life around, gotten his GED, enrolled in Ashland University and written over 14 pieces of literature works, in addition to poems and screenplays, that he hopes will inspire youth to avoid the path that he ended up on.

"At the age 15, I was a product of my environment unknowingly to adult influences in my life," remarked the rising author.  "I had grown into being a drug dealer, a robber, a fighter, and a problem to many. I found myself getting shot at, arrested repeatedly and expelled from school. And eventually in prison. But now my goal is, simply, to teach others that there is a better way."

In Rodney's debut novel, "Chained", the main character is torn between his life as a major-time drug dealer and taking a different path. The trials and tribulations faced in "Chained" will certainly resonate with many readers since they are based on real experiences, dramatized for the greatest teaching potential.

It's safe to say while this is Rodney's first novel, many more can be expected in the near future. The demand for such an honest voice is out there and he is powerfully answering the call.
