FORT MYERS, Fla. - Feb. 21, 2020 - PRLog -- Naples Center for Functional Medicine has added Dr. Lindsey Berkson to its team of experienced physicians, bringing another perspective to the growing practice.

Berkson's specialty is evaluating the relationship between hormones, nutrition and digestion, creating an individualized health care plan that optimizes patients' overall health, wellness and lifestyle. One of Berkson's areas of expertise is developing natural solutions to slow down the aging process.

Berkson focuses much of her professional time on teaching continuing education medical courses for an audience of doctors and pharmacists, focusing on the role of hormones in the human body. She has served as a nutritionist, consultant, lecturer, researcher, scholar, author, blogger, podcaster, chiropractor and functional medicine specialist for nearly five decades. Her experience includes 35 years focused on the role of hormones in the human body, including the development of supplement-maker Metagenics' first female nutraceutical line for physicians in the U.S. She held the position of distinguished scholar at an estrogen think tank at Tulane University and fellow at the Health Sciences Collegium medical research institute.

Another of Berkson's passions is helping patients address the difficult topic of aging.

"Aging is not an unavoidable fact of life," Berkson said. "So much of the aging process is attributed to our hormones, so with the right strategies and lifestyle changes, we can help patients slow down the aging process naturally so they can continue to live a fulfilling, enjoyable and healthy life."

Berkson's arrival coincides with Naples Center for Functional Medicine introducing the world's first Renal Functional Medicine Program, which will be focused on preventing and reversing renal decline and kidney disease. Berkson worked at a dialysis center with renowned nephrologist Dr. Jack Moncrief. She has developed strategies that identify the molecules that drive kidney disease and spearheaded natural treatments to reverse "molecules of mass destruction" and improve renal health.

The author of 21 books, Berkson released "Sexy Brain" in 2017 to document the threat of "environmental castration" from the toxic environment that has become prevalent across the country.

Berkson earned dual bachelor's degrees in neurobiology and communication/film from the University of Michigan, a master's degree in nutrition from Goddard College and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the University of Western States. She attended co-programs in naturopathic care at National College in Oregon.

Berkson joins Medical Director Dr. Carol L. Roberts and Physician Dr. Eduardo Maristany at Naples Center for Functional Medicine, along with a skilled team of nurses, technicians and office assistants.
