Lake Forest Nursing Center Sued for Elder Abuse and Neglect

According to the complaint, which was filed with the Superior Court of the State of California in Orange County, the plaintiff endured needless pain and suffering during her time at Lake Forest Nursing Center. First admitted in 2015 as a senior with partial paralysis, the plaintiff was entirely dependent on facility staff for her activities of daily living (ADLs) – and was owed a high duty of care as a result.

Despite this fact, the staff at Lake Forest Nursing Center repeatedly failed to protect her from abuse, falling accidents, and other injury risks. In one incident in 2016, a nurse ran over the plaintiff's paralyzed leg, causing her mobility to decline over the following years. Later, in August 2019, the plaintiff was dropped by improperly trained nursing staff members during a transfer to her bed, which caused her to suffer a painful hip fracture.

Rather than taking action to provide emergency care and notify the plaintiff's family, the facility staff chose to conceal her injuries until the family confronted them about their loved one's reports of pain. The plaintiff was then hospitalized two weeks later after her blood pressure dropped to dangerous levels.

When nursing homes fail to consider the safety and dignity of their residents, they may be held liable for causing serious injuries.
