ST. LOUIS - Feb. 11, 2020 - PRLog -- Mustang Marine has delivered a new custom designed Slewing Accommodation Ladder Barge Access System for a customer on the Illinois River.

The unit is the second one built by Mustang Marine for the facility.  The system was custom designed around several critical requirements necessary for proper integration into the facility's operation.  One such requirement was to limit the system's overall height to only 9'-0" so it would not interfere with barge cover's being lifted over it by the facility's unloading equipment.

The system consists of a Base Platform, a 20ft long accommodation ladder and the lifting gear required for a fully functional system.  The main structure and stowage equipment are welded carbon steel construction with a hot dip galvanized finish.  The Base Platform is attached to the side/top of the dock and is capable of slewing (rotating) over 180 degrees.  The system was designed so the accommodation ladder stows horizontally along the back side of the dock.  It is raised and rotated into position similar to a fire truck's ladder.  The heavy-duty aluminum accommodation ladder is fitted with self-leveling treads and feathering (folding) handrails.  The self-leveling treads allow for proper function of the ladder in both ascending and descending operations.  The lifting gear includes a Mustang Marine winch with necessary tackle for smooth and easy positioning of the ladder.  Controls include an operating pendant with an Emergency Stop and limit switches for rotating and lifting functions.
