The Thailand Yacht Show 2020 at Royal Phuket Marina was a resounding success
Phuket Governor Phakaphong Tavipatana was welcomed by Thailand Yacht Show CEO and Founder, Mr Andy Treadwell, together with Royal Phuket Marina Chairman, Mr Gulu Lalvani, whose vision is to create a world-class waterfront lifestyle resort. The Governor gave an introductory speech to kick off the event in which he complimented the marina and praised the organisers for their efforts to grow high-spending yacht tourism in Thailand's leisure marine hub.
As Thailand's premier in-water yacht show, all the major players in pleasure boating were in attendance. Visitors had access to over 50 yachts and were given the opportunity to meet with local brokers. A wide range of boats and yachts were on display – from smaller boats made for day sailing to a large six-cabin ultra-luxury superyacht.
Royal Phuket Marina welcomes visitors from India, China, Russia, Europe, the USA, and many other countries, demonstrating Phuket's importance on the global stage. With Phuket now only a 3-hour flight away, Indian boaters and holiday-home owners can take advantage of Thailand's 0% tax on the purchase of yachts and boats, buy one at the yacht show, and keep it in Phuket for use on long weekends.
Royal Phuket Marina can house some 296 boats of up to 35 meters in length and is equipped with wet berths, hardstands, and covered premium dry stack boat storage spaces. It is also home to boutique shopping, fine dining, the largest exhibition hall on the island, distinguished luxury waterfront condominiums, and the only villas in Thailand that come with their own private boat berth.
Royal Phuket Marina is the proud holder of the International Clean Marina Award as well as the prestigious 5 Gold Anchor Award bestowed by the British Yacht Harbour Association – the first and only marina and Thailand to receive these distinctions. It has truly emerged as one of Asia's most sophisticated high-tech yachting havens.
The Thailand Yacht Show and the unique year-round marketing platform it provides, has the potential to greatly increase the number of quality tourists visiting Phuket. This would generate important employment opportunities for the residents of Phuket, and much-needed cash tourism income for both the regional and national economies.
