Black Connect Accepting Submissions For 1st Annual Design Contest For Creative Entrepreneurs

TAMPA, Fla. - Feb. 4, 2020 - PRLog -- Today, Black Connect announced its national design contest created to bring awareness to the lack of diversity in graphic design and provide exposure for talented Black designers.  Participants will use their artistic talents to create eye-opening and provocative designs that illustrate the mission of Black Connect.  The winning design will be featured on Black Connect's signature t-shirt. Submissions are accepted through February 29, 2020.

"Design has the power to capture and influence our opinion of every product, service, event, and experience," said Angela Majette, President. "Racial diversity has been an issue in the graphic design community for over 20 years, yet the gap in representation and opportunities for Black Americans remains.  We are thrilled to showcase the artistic talents of African-American designers and will continue to use our platform to raise awareness and create opportunities that elevate entrepreneurs and professionals," said Majette.

The #CloseTheGap Design Contest is co-sponsored by Ellen Lupton.  Ms. Lupton is founding director of the Graphic Design MFA Program at MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) in Baltimore, where she has authored numerous books on design processes, including Thinking with Type, Graphic Design Thinking, Graphic Design: The New Basics, and Type on Screen. She also serves as Senior Curator of Contemporary Design at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York City.

Lupton's book, Design Is Storytelling, will be awarded to the top 10 contestants. "I'm excited to see the designs that will be created to Close the Gap. Congratulations to everyone for your creativity and commitment," said Lupton.
