Amarillo, Texas is the Best City for Firefighters

NEW YORK - Feb. 4, 2020 - PRLog -- AdvisorSmith, a leading information resource for small business owners, released a study today ranking 311 cities in the United States based on their attractiveness for firefighters.

The study ranked cities based on the following factors:
• The location quotient, which measures the concentration of jobs on a per capita basis
• The cost of living in each city
• Average salaries for firefighters in each of the cities

Key Findings

• The #1 city for firefighters is Amarillo, Texas, which offers an average salary of $61,450, exceeding the national average by 15%. The city also has a 85% higher concentration of jobs for firefighters compared with the average American city and a cost of living 16% below the average.

• The best cities for firefighters are small and midsize cities, with 10 of the top 10, and 41 of the top 50 cities having metro area populations under 500,000. Many small and midsized city fire departments are made up almost entirely of volunteer or part-time firefighters, and much of the job growth for firefighters is occurring where volunteer positions are converted to full-time paid positions.

• The top large cities for firefighters are Cape Coral, FL; Columbus, OH; and Toledo, OH. The top midsize cities are Amarillo, TX; Pueblo, CO; and Waco, TX. The top small cities are Leominster, MA; Enid, OK; and Danville, IL.
