Painting Journey into Copper Canyon, Mexico
By: Dominik J. Modlinski
"Copper Canyon" (Barranca del Cobre) is really a series of canyons, which drain the western side of the Sierra Tarahumara. The Copper Canyon area lies within the Sierra Madre Occidental province of northwestern Mexico. The entire Copper Canyon region comprises 25,000 sq. mi, almost a third of the state of Chihuahua, which is Mexico's largest state. This canyon system is larger and deeper than the Grand Canyon in the neighboring United States. Mexico established the Copper Canyon National Park (Parque Nacional Barranca del Cobre) to showcase this remote but beautiful area.
"Copper Canyon was always on my bucket list of places to paint and explore. It is still relatively unknown area of the world and I would like to document it through my plein air paintings. For many years I had a desire to venture into this area and what better way then on the adventure motorcycle caring all my painting gear and supplies. As with previous expedition you will see immediate results in form of plein air paintings. Through my links on social media you will be able to see where I am painting and possibly choose a location reference for one of your reward studio paintings." Says Dominik. He also added, "My paintings are a tribute to the natural geography of the world and are a continued attempt to portray how art in particular can reveal and aspect of what is visible and also what requires a more attentive appreciation and care; paintings themselves are intended to represent landscapes that are not simply to be admired, but also preserved."
