-- After more than ten years of legal battles, disappointments and wait, Dr. Rajan Mahtani's patience was finally rewarded. It was on 31st January 2019 when the judge at the Court of Appeal announced his final statement on this long-pending case. According to this statement, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani, a noted businessman and philanthropist, owns 58 percent shares of Portland Cement through his company Finsbury Investments. On the other hand, Ventriglias owned Ital Terrazzo Limited held just 42 percent shares at the factory and were only minority shareholders without any legal ownership. Based on this decision from the Court of Appeal, it is clearly established that Dr. Mahtani is actual owner of the Portland Cement Zambia factory.
Before Court of Appeal, Dr. Mahtani had approached the Court of Appeal. The judge residing at Lusaka HC was justice Nkonde. According to his final statement which was given during May, 2018, Ventriglias were awarded majority shareholding of the Portland Cement case. It was clear that this decision was misdirected & influenced by external parties. As a result, Dr. Rajan Mahtani took an extremely viable decision of approached higher Court of Appeal. By doing this, Dr. Rajan Mahtani also showed that no matter how difficult his business goals get, he will never resort to any unethical or illegal path and will always have faith in the justice system of Zambia.
