Choosing the right Dental Veneers
What should you be considering when deciding which Dental Veneers to go for
By: The Dental Surgery
There are basically two types of veneers, ones that are made directly by the dentist in a single visit and those that are specially made in a dental laboratory.
The first are commonly known as Dental Bonding or Composite Veneers. Composite veneers are placed in a single visit, the technique involves placement of white fillings onto the front surface of the teeth. The layer of filling can be used to mask discolouration, lengthen and even the teeth. It is a highly skilled procedure.
These are a two-visit procedure, the first visit involves the dentist taking impressions of your mouth, these are then sent to dental who will make thin porcelain facings which are then bonded to the front surface of the teeth at the second appointment. As with the composite veneers they can be used to mask discolouration, unevenness and change the shape of the underlying teeth.
Both are highly technical, require a skilled clinician with experience in cosmetic dentistry.
Considering the right shade of Veneers
Veneers can be tailored from over 40 different shades, depending on the natural shade on your teeth. Ideally, we will be selecting a shade that is two or three shades lighter than your natural teeth. The veneers will complement the shape of your mouth as well as your smile.
The shade is ultimately he patient's choice, the dentist can guide you. You can have Hollywood White or a more natural shade, or anything between.
Veneers come in different shapes
Depending on the overall shape of your teeth and also the shape of your face, will depend on what we recommend you have for the shape of your veneers. More 'square edges' is more masculine, rounded gives a softer look. Patients often bring in pictures of the look they aspiring to.
