Aluminium Stewardship Initiative certifies Jupiter Aluminum Corporation against Performance Standard

HAMMOND, Ind. - Jan. 21, 2020 - PRLog -- Jupiter Aluminum is proud to announce that its aluminum melting facility in Hammond, Indiana is the first facility in the United States to achieve certification to the Aluminium Stewardship Initiatives' Performance Standard. Jupiter Aluminum joined the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative in 2017.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminum value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminum value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, human rights, and greenhouse gas emissions. The independent, third-party audit of the Jupiter Aluminum plant was carried out by DNV GL.

Jupiter Aluminum's aluminum production utilizes one of the highest recycled scrap content rates in the industry, with over 95% of raw material coming from scrap aluminum. Our melting furnaces are fired by unique and patented high temperature oxy-fuel burner technology. With this technology we can support and enhance responsible aluminum production by significantly reducing natural gas consumption, CO₂, SO_x, and NO_x emissions.

Most, if not all standards set fixed objectives. The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative standards are unique in that they require a commitment to continuously improve. As such these standards are growth minded. They refer to the necessity to grow and evolve as a citizen of the world and rely not just on business principles, but on everyone's ability and duty to be socially responsible.
