Automated robotic induction brazing of copper pipes demonstrated by UltraFlex
The induction brazing process had been fully automated, with no operator required which significantly cut costs and ensured repeatability and consistency of the end result.
Dragon 15 integrates the UltraFlex W15 (15 kW) induction heating system with a Universal Robots cobot (UR 5) to achieve a fully automated brazing process. Dragon 15 can automatically and consistently braze multiple joints located in predefined positions in the assembly.
In the test scenario, set up per request of a potential customer, refrigerator copper pipes of size 6 x 0.75 mm had to be brazed to each other with induction, using 1mm brazing alloy rings (CuP7). The alloy rings had been placed onto the joints prior to brazing.
The evaluation of the demo results done by UltraFlex engineers showed that all joints had been performed with high quality, at a fraction of the time taken when torch brazing is used. The induction brazing process had been fully automated, with no operator required which significantly cut costs and ensured repeatability and consistency of the end result.
Finally, this robotic brazing process was completely flexible - it could be easily re-programmed to accommodate different process requirements. Last but not least, since induction heating does not burn traditional fossil fuels, this brazing operation was completely green and safe for the environment.
