-- This year, 200 kids across the Las Vegas valley will be walking comfortably thanks to the generosity of a local resident. Las Vegas mortgage lender Joe Wittenwiler, of Direct Mortgage Funding, donated 200 pairs of shoes to children in Title One schools as part of the Rotary Club of Las Vegas Southwest's Happy Feet program. The program is designed to provide new shoes and socks to children in low-income families.
"When I learned about the Happy Feet program, I was shocked. It's awful how many families don't have the money to buy their kids shoes. These kids are walking around wearing old, torn up shoes that don't fit. It's uncomfortable for them and can understandably make them feel self-conscious. I knew I wanted to do something to help, but I wasn't sure how," said Wittenwiler. "I opted to become a case study for a new book about how small businesses can support nonprofits. I followed the strategies that Sheryl Green (the author) details in the book and started donating five pairs of shoes for every loan I closed. Six months later, 200 kids have gotten new shoes and my business is doing better than ever. For 2020, my goal is 300 pairs!"
Green's recently released book called Do Good to Do Better: The Small Business Guide to Growing Your Business by Helping Nonprofits was a #1 New Release in multiple Amazon categories. The book is an easy to follow, practical guide for incorporating Cause Marketing into your business. The book addresses the benefits of giving, how to select the perfect nonprofit partner, the different types of marketing campaigns you can implement, how to evaluate the success of your collaboration, and much more. Ten percent of the proceeds from every book sold are donated to Hearts Alive Village Animal Rescue, a Las Vegas-based animal rescue organization that is dedicated to providing medical care to suffering animals and helping them find their forever homes.
"As small business owners, I believe we have the power and the responsibility to do some real good in our communities,"
said Green. "Standing for a cause and collaborating with a nonprofit has so many benefits. It will be the best business (and karma) decision you ever make. "
