MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - Jan. 13, 2020 - PRLog -- Since its launch in September 2010, Bell Let's Talk has partnered with more than 900 organizations providing mental health services throughout Canada, including major donations to hospitals, universities and other care and research organizations. This year, publisher Wintertickle Press, a company that specializes in books that share lived experiences of real Canadians dealing with mental health journeys, is doing its part.

On Saturday, January 25, between 11 am and 4 pm, you can come on out and support authors who write about their own mental health experiences by coming to Chapters Vega in Mississauga for a book signing dedicated solely to getting people to talk about mental health. The featured books will be: Save-My-Life School: A First Responder's Mental Health Journey by Barrie City Councillor Natalie Harris; Brainstorm Revolution: True Mental Health Stories of Love, Personal Evolution, and Cultural Revolution, which features 40 different short essays (including essays by such contributors as Stephane Grenier, Enza Tiberi-Checchia, and Asante Haughton); and A Medic's Mind by Matthew Heneghan—this title being recently long listed for the non-fiction Miramichi Reader's Very Best Book Award for 2020.

"The only way to end stigma around mental health is by talking, or in the case of the books we produce, writing," states Heather Down, owner of Wintertickle Press. "I want our company to make a difference, to somehow carve out a safe space for Canadian writers with amazing stories to share. We have notable Canadians who have contributed words to our projects. For example, Clara Hughes wrote the foreword for Natalie Harris' book Save-My-Life School and Michael Landsberg contributed a story to our anthology, but it is the everyday Canadians who also need a platform to speak from. It is my dream to provide that vehicle in the form of incredible Canadian non-fiction."

Wintertickle Press also prides itself in the literary quality of its publications. EMS Magazine posts about the most recent title by Wintertickle Press, A Medic's Mind, "Heneghan is a master of description, a sort of Picasso with words. He paints a picture that includes all the senses, allowing readers to experience life as if they were him." The Prairies Book Review states, "Heneghan writes with a disarming honestly . . . "

The idea to feature lots of mental health titles and authors was the brainchild of Mississauga's Chapters Vega manager and Down. After a compete sellout signing of A Medic's Mind in the fall, the two decided that featuring more books on the topic of mental health near Bell Let's Talk Day could really help to smash stigma.

Various authors are available for interviews and media inquiries.
