Church of Scientology Invites You to Swing Dance for Grandmothers
By: Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization
"My grandmother was always a positive influence in my life," said Tonya Lewis, founder of Children with a Vision. "This is a way to give back."
The $20 donation at the door includes refreshments and the dance class. All proceeds will assist Children with a Vision to produce their Grandmother's Gala which is a celebration to honor grandmothers.
Delivering the dance lesson is career dancer Arleene Bowles, who provides her skills to help different charitable organizations raise funds for their causes. New and experienced dancers are all invited to join in to learn East Coast Swing Dance.
"A beginner's swing dance class may take many different formats," said Clemence Chevrot, Community Affairs Director for the Church of Scientology. "But Ms. Bowles provides an easily accessible introduction to partner dancing, which will enable you to start swing dancing right away."
Swing dancing began in the 1920's when many young dancers discovered the Lindy Hop whole at the Savoy Ballroom in New York City. The Savoy Ballroom always had a no-discrimination policy. Dancers were judged on their dancing skills and not on the color of their skin. Swing dancing had a resurgence in the early 90's and has continued to be popular.
Partners are not required for the dance lesson and experienced dancers will be on hand to assist Ms. Bowles. For more information about the event, please call (727) 467-6860.
