-- Helping Bags is delighted to close the end of 2019 celebrating its fifth year helping the homeless communities of San Diego and Los Angeles. Founded in the summer of 2014, by Evan Pickens, Helping Bags started with the simple mission of giving directly to those in need. Since then Helping Bags have been handed out to the homeless the last weekend of every month. These bags are filled with essential items needed for basic survival on the streets from toilet paper to food. An estimated 22,000 bags and bottles of Helping Bags water have been distributed, all of no charge to the people receiving them, helping to lessen the burden of life on the streets.
The homeless populations of Los Angeles and San Diego have been increasing rapidly with a 12 percent increase from 2018 to 2019 in Los Angeles alone! The city of Los Angeles estimates that 75 percent of the homeless live outdoors. This number will continue to grow as income inequality skyrockets with most major gains going towards California's richest residents and losses for the lowest income earners.
Helping Bags is optimistic for 2020 and hopes to help more people as we grow. To learn more about Helping Bags you can visit http://www.HelpingBags.com
