Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Founder Victoria L Collier On Domestic Violence And Elder Abuse
By: The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm
DECATUR, GA, December 20, 2019: Victoria L. Collier, founder of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new article on her law firm's website entitled "When Talking Domestic Violence Awareness, Let's Not Forget Elder Abuse." Ms. Collier advocates for the need for continuous awareness of violence against the vulnerable senior population.
As Collier points out, "The statistics are chilling. Approximately 20% of the elderly population, with estimates as high 5 million elders are abused in the United States each year." She goes on to write, "And the sad news is that perhaps only 1 in 14 cases of elder abuse are reported. With the Baby Boomer generation moving deeper into their golden years, this will continue to be a growing problem in our culture unless we make continuous efforts to bring the issue to the awareness of the general population."
"According to studies on the subject," Collier says, "the perpetrator in most elder abuse cases (roughly two thirds, according to estimates) is a family member."
