What: The 17th Annual "Lights On" Foundation Coat Drive Collecting Gently Worn Coats, Scarves, Hats and Cold Weather Items When: Saturday, December 7, 2019 Coat Drive: 3:30pm | Game Time: 5:00pm Where: The University of Maryland College Park, XFINITY Center Media Check-In: Gate C (South Ground Gate) Coat Drive Location: Gates A, B and E Why: Former Maryland standout and NFL great, Shawne Merriman, will host his Annual "Lights On" Foundation Coat Drive and dedicate this year's undertaking to homeless US Veterans who are in need of support. "Many of our Veterans are in need of warm clothing this winter," state Merriman. "And as a part of the Lights On mission, we want to do our part to help," continues the NFL Pro Bowler. Partnering with his Alma Mater, The University of Maryland, Merriman will present the 17th installment to add to the 28k coats collected over the past 16 years. This year's coat drive will benefit Maryland-based Veterans' organization, MCVET. The 17th Annual Coat Drive will be held this Saturday prior to the Maryland-Illinois basketball game at the XFINITY Center. Merriman will be joined by other Terps athletes, collecting coats, hats, scarves and other cold-weather clothing. About Lights On Merriman's Lights On Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for youth and to help the homeless. He donates time, money and other resources throughout the country by increasing opportunities for children to lead healthy and fulfilling lives through his foundation. By building corporate partnerships within the community, Merriman is able to provide financial assistance to projects focusing primarily on helping the homeless and children in need.
