Garcia & Artigliere Filed Elder Abuse Claim Against Cypress Ridge Care Center in Monterey

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Dec. 5, 2019 - PRLog -- Garcia & Artigliere filed a complaint on behalf of the family of a former patient of Cypress Ridge Care Center in Monterey, CA. The complaint alleges that the deceased man was subjected to elder abuse and neglect at the nursing home facility, due in part to negligent hiring and supervision.

The victim in this case was a 90-year-old man who was admitted to Cypress Ridge Care Center in August of 2018, following the completion of a surgical procedure at Community Hospital of Monterey. He was bedridden due to his condition, and eventually developed pressure sores.

Limited mobility is a risk factor for bedsore development, but ulcers can be prevented through frequent repositioning of a patient and proper hygiene. The complaint alleges that the staff of Cypress Ridge Care Center denied the patient of this care, resulting in the development of Stage III and IV pressure sores on his body.

The patient was also more at risk for falls due to his condition. Allegedly, the facility staff did not provide him with the supervision and assistance he required to prevent fall injuries. Following a fall from his bed, the staff told the patient's family that he was transferred to Community Hospital of Monterey to treat his injuries. However, he was not located in the hospital his family was directed to — instead, he was at Salinas Valley Medical Center. In the fall, he had sustained a broken nose and eye lacerations, and was required to wear a neck brace. The patient was eventually moved back into Cypress Ridge Care Center. He passed away on July 31, 2019.

The complaint also presents allegations of negligent hiring and supervision at Cypress Ridge Care Center, based on the plaintiff's claims of negligent care at the facility.
