Leather Garment Standard Updated in China

China updates industry standard for leather clothing – QB/T 1615-2018.

GENEVA - Dec. 5, 2019 - PRLog -- China's new industry standard for leather garments – QB/T 1615-2018 – was implemented on July 1, 2019, when the previous version was abolished.

Launched by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, QB/T 1615-2018, covers all garments that are predominantly made of leather and which are not aimed at children aged 36 months or less.

Compared to the 2006 iteration of the standard, QB/T 1615-2018 contains the following revisions:

·         Changes in four items:

o   Scope

o   Requirements for size and specification

o   Rules of quality grade classification

o   Assessment of lot

·         Additions of four items:

o   Requirements for leather raw materials

o   Requirements of physical and chemical properties for leather accessories and attachments

o   Requirements for textile, fur collar and fur accessories in test methods

o   Requirements of physical and chemical properties and test methods for leather, textile and fur in Annex B

·         Revisions on three items:

o   Wording of materials to be used

o   Sample size in routine inspection

o   Requirement for grading superior sample in single sample assessment

In addition, the labelling of leather materials has been refined in this updated edition.

QB/T 1615-2018 specifies the requirements for each of the materials – leather, textiles and fur.

The requirements of physical and chemical properties for leather include:

·         Tear force

·         Colorfastness to rubbing

·         Odor

·         pH value and dilution ratio (when pH is less than 4.0)

·         Formaldehyde

·         Decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines

The requirements of physical and chemical properties for textiles include:

·         Fibre content

·         Colorfastness to rubbing

·         Odor

·         pH value

·         Formaldehyde

·         Decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines

The requirements of physical and chemical properties for fur include:

·         Colorfastness to rubbing

·         Odor

·         pH value and dilution ratio (when pH is less than 4.0)

·         Formaldehyde

·         Decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines

·         Colorfastness to perspiration for fur collar

·         Colorfastness to light for fur collar
