-- Baby Dear is a short film made by the students of Metfilm School in London and are currently either pursuing their Master's or Bachelor's degree from there. Baby Dear is a dark story laced with elements of absurdity and surrealism. A story involving a mother and her boy. She builds a world of lies and secrecy for her son, only for it to come crashing down in the most simplistic manner. This is not your typical mother and son relationship. There are hints of extreme craziness, animosity, possessiveness and perversion involved. There is extreme love and attention and at time equal amounts of anger and hatred involved.
"For me this is a very personal project as it is my debut direction. I have always loved telling stories and the world of filmmaking. This project is a culmination of over 10 months of hard work by mainly myself, my co producer Scott Dance and my writer Jefferson Koubis. For us it was a dream to tell a story which was both surreal and sinister in nature." says the director, Soham Banerjee
He wants to share something to those who supports his film, "As a child, my father took me to the cinema to watch Phantom Menace and I didn't really understand the film. I was about 4 years of age. What interested me was how beautiful images connected with one another. How every shot was beautiful and colorful (especially lightsabers!)
. It made me feel powerful at the end of the film. Films is something which must make the viewer feel something. It is about feeling more than mindlessly looking at something. So perhaps at this stage of life Phantom Menace is not a good example which is why I draw a lot of inspiration from Tarkovsky and current Korean and Japanese cinema. Lesser dialogues, longer takes help to immerse an audience. So if you support me on my debut film I promise to go on and make more thought provoking and intellectually charged stuff in the future. This is my philosophy and I shall always stick with it!"
