6 Ideas for Creating New Holiday Tradition After a Death of a Loved one!

Food

Make it a tradition to cook your loved one's favorite dish (or recipe) at every celebration, be it Christmas, Easter or Thanksgiving, for instance, in my family we make "Auntie's 7 cheese macaroni", The savory aroma produces smiles throughout the house! Cool Fact: The sense of smell is closely linked with memory, probably more so than any of our other senses.

2. Music

You can't bring your loved one back, however, they can always remain alive in your memories, if you start a tradition that involves singing their favorite songs on holidays. For e.g., you can set up a tradition of singing their favorite song just before going to bed on Christmas Eve, like in my family we do a sing "Don't Stop Believin'" before hitting the bed on Christmas Eve.

3. Memory tablecloth

Every year make sure you lay the tablecloth that had been personally used by them. If you don't have their tablecloth, make it a family activity in which every family member has to write down their favorite memories.

4. Light a candle

Light a candle in the remembrance of your loved ones at the beginning of the holiday season and let it burn throughout.

5. Give Charity

Every year, in the memory of your loved ones, make a family tradition to give charity in your loved one's name. It could be something that they absolutely loved and adored or something they would have loved receiving themselves. Your family can plant a new tree every, participate in a charitable 5k, or volunteer at a soup kitchen!

What holiday traditions have you created for your family to keep your loved ones alive in your memory?
