Follow on Google News | Yours Humanly Sponsors 20 Children in Haiti, Guarantees Education Funding Through 12th GradeChildren will spend days in school and after school programs, rather than on the streets
By: Yours Humanly Residents in Cite Soleil have no access to safe drinking water, toilets, or electricity, and scavenge for recyclable materials they can sell. There is always an undercurrent of gang violence in the neighborhood. The Yours Humanly scholarships will get these children off the streets and out of harm's way by funding annual tuition, uniforms, books, school supplies, and mid-day meals, which most parents of this community cannot afford. Additionally, the scholarships fund participation in after school programs, so when school lets out mid-afternoon, the children remain in the safety of the school environment with adults and volunteers, who help them with their homework, sports activities, and computer education. "Rather than spending their days on the streets, these twenty children, ranging in age from four to twelve, are now getting the education they deserve," says Yours Humanly Founder & CEO Sunny Singh, who traveled to Haiti in September 2019 to meet the students and their teachers. "Monday through Friday, they have a full day of schooling and after school programs in a safe and nurturing space. Some of these children have never been in school; others had been in school but had to drop out due to the expense of tuition and supplies. We're happy to give them a chance in life—to give them the gift of an education." For more information about Yours Humanly, visit YoursHumanly.org.
