U.K. Research To Provide Medical Cannabis to 20,000 Patients and CA Cannabis Farms Get Tax Relief

Quebec finalizes cannabis regulations, including a ban on any sweet-tasting edibles, a prohibition of public consumption, and the designation of a legal purchase age of 21, the highest in the country. The heightened age restriction is sparking controversy, with proponents citing the need to protect youth brain development. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, along with other critics, are questioning the logic in comparison to an 18 year old drinking age, as well as the likelihood of underage consumers turning to the black market.

Also in Canada, Spectrum Therapeutics, partners with medical healthcare, research, and product manufacturing company Tree of Knowledge to launch an MMJ educational program for patients and providers. During the two year agreement, Spectrum will introduce webinars and online learning modules through Jack Nathan Health clinics, located in 74 Walmart stores across Canada.

In the U.K., a new research initiative called Twenty21, backed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, will provide medical cannabis to 20,000 patients over a two-year period. Although the country legalized medical marijuana last year, high costs prevent most from obtaining it. The project aims to create the largest body of evidence on cannabis use in Europe.
