Dr. Stephanie Kinsey attends ICCMO 30th Annual Bernard Jankelson Memorial Lecture Forum
Stephanie Kinsey, DDS, owner and founder of Palencia Dental in St. Augustine, Fla. recently attended the International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics (ICCMO) 30th Annual Bernard Jankelson Memorial Lecture Forum in Kansas City, Missouri.

The forum was held as an American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP) Recognized provider which assists dental professionals in continuing education courses. ICCMO designated the recent forum for 16.5 continuing education credits. Dr. Kinsey participated in lectures and classes focusing on her specializations with sleep apnea, posture, neuromuscular restorative and orthodontic treatment, bite management, occlusal and equilibration.
A highlight of the conference included Dr. Kinsey's coursework studies in disclusion time reduction (DTR) with Dr. Ben Sutter. DTR is a specialized dental treatment procedure which requires the use of a T-Scan assessment tool used to evaluate and identify force and timing, two of the most fundamental parameters for measuring occlusion and contact between teeth. The advanced technology evaluates and records electrical activity produced by skeletal muscle activity and the positive treatment for chronic pain conditions and hypersensitive teeth. New computer technology uses a highly specialized hand piece and scan device. According to Dr. Kinsey, DTR is a milestone option in treating trigeminal neuralgia and chronic pain which has been a challenging diagnosis.
Another course she attended included the study of facial development with specific appliances in the adult population to increase airway and treat sleep apnea, and to potentially eliminate the malady. Medical solutions for sleep-disordered breathing include using biomimetics, a type of tooth-conserving dentistry with oral appliance therapy.
Dr. Kinsey specializes in the relationship between Temporomandibular disorders (TMD), disorders that develop from problems with the fit between the upper and lower teeth, the jaw joint, and the muscles in the face that control chewing and moving the jaw. TMD and sleep-disordered breathing can be treated with procedures using orthopedic joint congruence, the measurement of two opposing joint surfaces, and yoga to potentially improve sleep issues, quality of life, posture problems, and others.
Dr. Kinsey graduated with honors in 1994 from the University of Colorado Health Science Center in Denver, Colorado. She was accepted into a General Practice Residency in Chicago, Illinois at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she was invited to stay a second year and serve as chief resident.
