Garcia & Artigliere Alleged Dependent Adult Abuse Complaint Against Bell Villa Care Assoc

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Nov. 15, 2019 - PRLog -- Garcia & Artigliere is pursuing a lawsuit against Bell Villa Care Associates LLC in Mission Viejo, CA based on allegations of dependent adult abuse and neglect.

The plaintiff, a former resident of Bell Villa Care Associates LLC, is a 63-year-old woman who is considered a "dependent adult" under California state law. She was admitted to Bell Villa Care Associates LLC following a stay at Lakewood Regional Medical Center. The patient was taken to the hospital's emergency room following a fall that caused a hip fracture. She had surgery to replace her fractured hip and was transferred to Bell Villa Care Associates LLC for post-operative rehabilitation.

The patient's condition left her completely dependent on the staff of Bell Villa Care Associates LLC for assistance with daily tasks. Allegedly, the facility's staff denied the plaintiff the care she needed, contributing to the development of severe pressure sores and other injuries. The complaint alleges that inadequate staffing left the patient without proper hygiene, nutrition, hydration, medical care, and movement and repositioning that could have prevented bedsores.

During a surgery follow-up appointment, the plaintiff's physician observed that her hip replacement was out of place. She had a staph infection and Stage IV pressure sores with exposed tissue and bone. To treat her conditions, the patient had to undergo surgery to remove the hip replacement, in addition to antibiotics and wound closure treatment for the bedsores. The patient's family was allegedly not aware of her condition until she was released to her home. At the time the complaint was filed, the plaintiff was still on a medication regimen and in therapy. She is unsure if she will be able to walk again.
