Iconic San Diego Bookstore Loses Lease

SAN DIEGO - Nov. 15, 2019 - PRLog -- The staff of Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore, a 27-year staple in the San Diego community, was notified on Wednesday that they have lost their lease and will need to vacate their Balboa Avenue location within 60 days.

A vibrant part of the San Diego book scene and recognized nationally in the Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror and Mystery genres, the store has seen 5-10% growth in sales and increasing profits over the past several years, despite the impact of the competitive e-commerce industry. Their loyal customers have generated rave reviews on Yelp and beyond, and their regular in-store events with authors, book discussion groups, and other special events are consistently well attended.

Mysterious Galaxy has been on the market for a new owner since 2018. Unless a new location and buyer are secured, the popular award-winning independent bookstore will be forced to close its doors.

The sale of Mysterious Galaxy would be a turnkey purchase, providing new ownership with a knowledgeable staff and a successful, respected brand that continues to show growth potential.
