TUCKER, Ga. - Nov. 8, 2019 - PRLog -- The Atlanta Bishop's Storehouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had 25 pallets of food available to donate for local Metro-Atlanta food banks.

Of the 1,505 cases donated, here's a sample of what was donated: Beef Stew, Green Beans, Chicken Rotini Soup (136 cases each), Peaches (160 cases), Spaghetti (216 cases), Diced Tomatoes & Pears (80 cases each).

The first group of volunteers loaded boxes and pallets to 4 different food bank trucks as early as 7:30 AM.  The second set of 10 volunteers arrived to finish off the last boxes to the Lawrenceville Co-op by 11:00 AM and finished by noon.

Tom Balog, Executive Director of the Lawrenceville Co-Op states, "I was overwhelmed by the generosity of all of your leaders and volunteers.  The much needed food will go to help so many in need in our community.  It truly takes a community coming together to really make a difference! I look forward to future collaborations."

Tamra Hinckley, Administrative Assistant with the Bishop's Storehouse, reported that the service project that day was great. She said, "We were finished with everything about noon. The Co-Op representatives were so grateful and thanked us for the product. They also were just overjoyed with the size of our warehouse and how we helped them. All of the products were distributed to the co-ops and everyone was SAFE!"

Other Gwinnett Food Bank organizations represented that day were the Norcross Co-Op, the North Gwinnett Co-Op & the Duluth Co-Op.

What is a Bishop's Storehouse?

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, each bishop has the responsibility to care for the poor and needy within the boundaries of his ward or congregation. One resource available to local Bishops is the bishops' storehouse—where those in need can go to obtain food and other supplies at the recommendation of their bishop.

The storehouse is filled with commodities provided by fast offerings and other generous donations from members. Food and supplies from the bishops' storehouse can also be sent to those affected by natural disasters, wars, or economic crises at a moment's notice.
