Follow on Google News | Leadership NEXT to host Nov. 12 program at The Salvation ArmyBy: Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce The Salvation Army of Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties has been providing programs and services since 1951, when it started by ministering the poor from a small office in central Fort Myers. Today, the nonprofit serves more than 71,000 individuals annually through a variety of outreach services, including financial assistance with utility bills and rent payments, food distribution, health care services, substance abuse programs, shelters for the homeless, disaster relief, and a counseling and life skills programs for those emerging from the corrections system. Leadership NEXT runs from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at The Salvation Army, 2400 Edison Ave. in Fort Myers. Representing The Salvation Army at Leadership NEXT will be Area Commanders Maj. Carlyle Gargis and Maj. Charlotte Gargis, along with Corporate and Strategic Partnerships Manager Eric Lane. Carlyle and Charlotte Gargis left their careers in the restaurant and business management industries in Oklahoma to pursue their calling in full-time ministry with The Salvation Army. Commissioned and ordained in 1999, the couple has held appointments in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Northeast Florida before moving to Southwest Florida this year. They most recently served as the administrators and pastors of Jacksonville Florida's Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center. Lane is responsible for overseeing corporate and community partnerships, the iconic Red Kettle Campaign and various fundraising campaigns for The Salvation Army throughout Lee, Hendry and Glades counties. The son of parents who both served as ordained pastors for The Salvation Army, Lane grew up with a passion for service and the organization. He spent a decade in sales and marketing before beginning his own career with The Salvation Army four years ago. Leadership NEXT attendees represent a variety of businesses and industries throughout Southwest Florida. Monthly sessions take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month and offer opportunities to develop new knowledge and skills, establish working relationships with colleagues and engage in valuable programs and discussions to further enhance their careers. Leadership NEXT's annual sponsor is the Florida Gulf Coast University Alumni Association. Leadership NEXT is free to attend for members of the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce and $10 for future members.
