WASHINGTON - Nov. 5, 2019 - PRLog -- Mid-November, music and poetry will blend for a contemplative hour of overtone singing and poetry reading. Audiences will relax in the acoustically rich sanctuary as the waning light of day filters through stained glass.

Harmonic Introductions, an overtone singing ensemble led by Robb Saffell & J.I. Canizares based in Rockville, MD, will offer meditative improvisations accompanied with singing bowls. District poets Maria de los Angeles and Reuben Jackson will recite original verses as well as poems by Carl Sandberg and Mary Oliver, among others.

"An overtone singer resonates two different notes simultaneously, it can be seen as a path to cultivate and practice self-harmony," says Saffell. "We are thrilled to participate in this afternoon of mystical poetry and meditative overtone improvisations."

De los Angeles is also thrilled. "We invite the audience to be part of a container of flowing, exquisite sound and to feel the soothing energy of the sanctuary's natural light," she says. "All of it a welcome interlude in the otherwise hectic season. I'm excited to recite along with the singers, and to include Reuben's beautiful poetry."

The concert is part of the Music with the Angels series, which honors the seven stained-glass Angels of Revelation surrounding the church altar of the Swedenborgian church in the 16th Street Historic District, designed by H. Langford Warren in the English Gothic revival style. The structure opened its doors in 1896 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Autumn Embers begins at 4 P.M. November 16, 2019, followed by a reception with the artists. A $12 donation is kindly requested at the door or at tinyurl.com/autumnembers. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the restoration of the church's historic bell tower. Church of the Holy City is located at 1611 16th Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20009.
