Follow on Google News | ![]() 2020 Inside Baseball Coaches Clinic Features UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS Pitching Coach Andrew DickinsonDrew Dickinson is in his eighth season as Illinois' pitching coach in 2019, after serving two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach in 2009 and 2011. Dickinson oversees the development of Illinois' record-setting pitching staff, as he is instrumental in recruiting for the Fighting Illini. He has been an integral part of Illinois' first Super Regional appearance in 2015 and three NCAA Regional berths (2011, 2013, 2015). Under Dickinson, Illinois' pitching staff has been one of the best in the Big Ten. 13 of The Fighting Illini pitchers have been drafted, including two first-round picks. The success on the mound has helped Illinois win 61.9 percent of its games over the last five years (166-102-1), one of the Illini's best five-year runs ever. In 2010, Dickinson served as the pitching coach for the Schaumburg Flyers of the independent Northern League. Dickinson was Illinois' volunteer assistant coach in 2009 while he finished his degree after a seven-year professional playing career. A 2009 graduate of Illinois, Dickinson holds a B.S. in communication. He was selected in the 28th round by the Oakland Athletics in the 2002 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. He is one of the best pitchers in Illinois history, earning third-team All-America honors by Collegiate Baseball and Big Ten Pitcher of the Year honors in 2001, and third-team Collegiate Baseball All-American laurels again in 2002. He shares the school records for career wins, wins in a Big Ten season, and holds the UI record for innings pitched in a Big Ten season.
