Junior Cotillion Kicks Off New Season in South Walton County
Etiquette, Manners and Character Education Classes for Fifth through Eighth-Grade Students
By: Junior Cotillion of Walton County
Chapter director, Alisha Turner-Day, says, "We are excited about the upcoming cotillion season and the wonderful response we have received from both new and returning parents. The self-confidence and character that the students will build will prepare them for their future opportunities in school and adulthood."
The National League of Junior Cotillions program features etiquette, character education, and social dance training for fifth through eighth grade students. The program includes three classes and a Black and White ball over a seven month period. Classes will be held monthly at the Padgett Park Community Center.
The purpose of the National League of Junior Cotillions program is to offer young people instruction and practice in the courtesies that make life more pleasant for them and those around them and places emphasis on etiquette, manners, and character education as it does formal dancing instruction.
The social behavior component ranges from rules of conversation to formal and informal manners. Among other topics will be positive first impressions, manners in the home and in public, electronic etiquette, and skills for being a guest, hostess or host. Students will also be introduced to such areas as responding to invitations, writing thank you letters, paying and receiving compliments, and good sportsmanship.
The ethical behavior component covers education relating to having honor, dignity, respect, fairness, a caring attitude, accountability and citizenship.
Since launching the Walton County Chapter in 2017, the program has ushered 150 students through instruction in etiquette, proper manners and social dances. Returning students will engage in a variety of new classes including a five-course instructional dinner, job interview skills, theater and fine dining etiquette and attending a cultural arts outing.
Membership is open to any interested fifth through eighth-grade students in Walton and Okaloosa Counties. Registration for the 2019/20 season is open through November 15.
