Local all-female singing group brings home International Silver Medal and Audience Choice Award
Lions Gate Chorus, an all-female Vancouver Show Chorus wins silver medal at world women's singing competition in New Orleans.
Lions Gate Chorus (LGC) is a world-class competitive all-female chorus of 100 members who sing a cappella in the barbershop style. Competition brings them the opportunity to travel. Their two-year cycle starts with an annual Regional competition, held in one of the three western provinces, which a chorus must win in order to advance to the International Stage. "We've competed in many cities throughout the US including Orlando, Houston, Nashville, Honolulu, Las Vegas, and New Orleans. Currently, we are discussing the possibility of a multi-city European tour within the next few years", says Alice Benson, singing member and booking agent.
Led by Musical Director Sandy Robinson Marron, LGC continually pushes the boundaries to create highly entertaining choreographed musical packages that are memorable, engaging and of the highest quality. Lions Gate has been rewarded for these high standards with consistent placement in the top five since 2007. In 2009, 2017 and again in 2019 in New Orleans, LGC has won the silver medal and received the Audience Choice Award for Most Entertaining Chorus at the Sweet Adelines International Competition.
LGC exists to create a safe place for women of all walks of life to come together and work toward a common goal of excellence in performance, singing, and leadership.
Lions Gate Chorus rehearses every Tuesday at 7:00pm in the Gym of the Salvation Army on 49th Ave. and Tyne St. in Vancouver with access through the gymnasium doors in the parking lot off 48th Ave. Lions Gate accepts new members on an on-going basis.
With over 100 singing members ages 16-80+, Lions Gate performs 4-part a cappella harmony at shows, concerts, local events and in competitions.
