NWHDA's "KIND IS BETTER" Program in Action: $2,500 Donated to Wallace Elementary School

Many school districts have been forced to make deep cutbacks to both teaching positions and curriculum. For instance, the Kelso School District - which includes Wallace Elementary - may need to cut $4 million from its school operating budget, according to district officials. Additionally, over 80% of Wallace Elementary School students are eligible for the free lunch program, compared to the state average of 37%. The NWHDA's donation will allow the school to purchase much-needed supplies and equipment, as well as fund important programs.
Principal Ray Cattin is very excited about the positive impact this will have on the school's students. "This gift will, immediately, be put to good use," said Cattin. "Our school's mission is to hold high academic expectations and develop personal responsibility to prepare students to be successful, active, and positive participants in society. And now, we will have more resources to assist more students!"
Scott Persin, general sales manager of Stirling Honda, will present the $2,500 check to Principal Ray Cattin on Wednesday, October 23, at 2:30 p.m. in the library of Wallace Elementary School.
"One of the reasons we chose Wallace Elementary is because the school's motto includes perseverance, community, and kindness," said Persin. "We want to help Wallace Elementary fulfill its mission to help all students achieve their full potential. Just like us at Stirling Honda, the school takes pride in being a team, treating others with respect, and doing their best every day."
