Book Launch: Creaating Micro-Schools for Colorful Mismatched Kids

SEATTLE - Oct. 17, 2019 - PRLog -- Local micro-school founder and director Dr. Maureen O'Shaughnessy is hosting a launch of her new book "Creating Micro-Schools for Colorful Mismatched Kids" on Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30 pm at Northlake Unitarian Universalist Church in Kirkland, WA (308 4th Ave S, Kirkland, WA 98033). Designed for parents and educators interested in how micro-schools can meet the needs of extraordinary students, the event will feature an author presentation. All attendees will receive a signed advance copy of the book.

Seating is limited. Tickets must be purchased in advance. All proceeds will go to the Mountains to Sound Greenway, an organization devoted to leading and inspiring action to conserve and enhance the landscape from Seattle across the Cascade Mountains to Central Washington, ensuring a long-term balance between people and nature.

Maureen O'Shaughnessy, EdD, is a career school innovator with over 30 years of transforming learning in schools to better serve all students. She is the founding director of Leadership Preparatory Academy, a nonprofit progressive micro-school in Washington State. With a master's degree in educational administration and a doctorate degree in educational leadership, she has an extensive understanding of the components needed to transform the education system.

Dr. O'Shaughnessy has served as head of school and principal internationally in countries such as Kuwait, Hungary, and Ecuador. Weaving in a strong emphasis on service and leadership at each school, she has been an educational change agent across the globe. Dr. O'Shaughnessy has dedicated her career to promoting compassionate, innovative, and responsive learning models so that all students can thrive. She is married and has two adult daughters who have inspired her to identify and finetune alternative learning models.
