OAK BROOK, Ill. - Oct. 14, 2019 - PRLog -- Even though the vaping industry is embattled these days in the press and by a moving target of new government regulations, vaping advocates are finding time to warn ex-smokers and smokers about the very real risk of oral cancer. "We know that millions of Americans have quit smoking with vaping and feel better physically as a respect, but oral cancer is a quiet killer that can develop years after quitting. When we found out oral cancer kills one person an hour in the U.S. and smoking presents the largest risk by far, we wanted to help get the word out to our past smokers that they still need to be screened," said Gregory Conley, the president of the American Vaping Association, a nonprofit that advocates for vaping products.

"As more and more companies and organizations join our initiative, we are grateful. This particular opportunity gives us a chance to reach an audience of people who may think they are bulletproof because they quit smoking," said an Oral Cancer Initiative spokesman. "We realize the vaping industry has been under fire lately, but they could save tens of thousands of lives by encouraging their customers to see an OCI certified dentist for oral screening and exam." According to some statistics, there are approximately ten million people worldwide that have stopped smoking by replacing it with vaping.

There is a secondary issue with Oral Cancer, half the people diagnosed with oral cancer had it passed on through the HPV Virus. This is a sexually transmitted disease, with most of those people being under 40 years of age. The HPV Virus is why they suggest people under 18 be vaccinated before they become sexually active.

The American Vaping Association has also offered to help get the word out to all vapers, many of whom are in that 21-40 age category. This group may go to their dentist for that perfect white smile but skip that all-important oral cancer exam. To help reach this large audience, the Oral Cancer Initiative will also be doing free screening events around the country just for vapers and sponsored by vaping companies that support the efforts of the American Vaping Association.

This important opportunity has caused the OCI to push their public launch to the end of October while they recruit and certify more dentists and train more customer service staff.
