COCOA, Fla. - Oct. 10, 2019 - PRLog -- The non-profit Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), the leading certifier of green residential and commercial construction in the state, is offering the Certifying Agent (CA) Designation class in Oct. 22-23 at the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) in Cocoa, Fla.

Successful CA backgrounds include residential trade contractor or builder experience either on the jobsite or in management, superintendent, home inspector or certified energy rater, residential design or architectural work and residential land development management.

As more builders and developers go green, Certifying Agents evaluate homes based on the "Florida Green" Home Designation Standard. It's also a personal endeavor for industry professionals who want to validate their understanding of green building and increase their marketability – as the popularity of going green in Florida increases.

"This is an opportunity for professionals in the residential construction industry to add the CA designation to their resume as well as put their skills to work and definitely a plus for people looking to do work in Florida's emerging green home market," noted FGBC Executive Director C.J. Davila.

The two-day training on green building techniques give CA's the ability to evaluate a home with respect to the criteria contained in the FGBC residential standard. FGBC Certifying Agents receive a certificate and identification card verifying their credentials

In 2000 the non-profit FGBC brought together industry professionals from the construction, government, academic and research communities to create green standards tailored specifically to Florida.

"Florida Green" standards take a scientific approach and are developed with state-specific criteria. They address Florida's hot-humid environment, distinctive topography, unique geology, resiliency and natural disasters.

CA requirements include one-year experience in the residential construction industry and completion of the Florida Green Home Certification Training and exam offered by FGBC and the FSEC.
