LOS ANGELES - Oct. 16, 2019 - PRLog -- The Red Carpet will be from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by the film screening at 7:00 pm, and ending with the Q&A. Miles Brown portrays Emmett, a twelve-year-old child prodigy who teams up with his eccentric SAT tutor to solve a crime and keep his family from splitting up.

Synopsis

Emmett, a junior at Heart High School, happens to be a highly imaginative twelve-year-old genius. After his brother Luke, also a junior and Emmett's best friend is accused of being involved in a rash of thefts at school, Emmett must find a way to prove his innocence before their mom ships Luke off to boarding school. Emmett enlists the help of his sixty-something SAT tutor and crime novelist, Mary, to help him find the real culprit. Together, with the assistance of his oddball friends and a benevolent science teacher, Emmett and Mary prove Luke's innocence and discover the real criminal might be someone from Mary's past.

Director's Statement

Bridget Stokes
, an LA Femme International Film Festival Alumni

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share "Boy Genius" with you. We've never seen this story before - the story of a joyful, imaginative, genius who happens to be an African American boy. This film is a funny, heart-felt coming-of-age story about a kid who is figuring out who he is and doing it with humor, class, and panache.

Screenwriter, Vicky Wight's understanding of what makes us human and what makes life worth living is profound. She doesn't gloss over the fact that race exists but explores it with a story of friendship and healing. With a diverse and talented cast, we hope to reach a wide audience with this film.

As storytellers, we have an incredible amount of power. We had to see numerous black presidents on-screen before Barack Obama became President. Representation is an enormous part of changing reality.

Parents are actively seeking movies that will teach love, compassion, strength, and citizenship to our sons and daughters. "Boy Genius", is a family film featuring a kid who is not afraid to be weird, who loves books, science, and language, a kid who will do anything for his friends and family and allows imagination and love to rule his world. It's the kind of movie I want to watch with my children."
