Mom invented audio toy debuts with stellar reviews.
"It's a great design! The concept is fabulous. Bravo!!"
"She loves it so much and wants to bring it everywhere!"
"We love our Toonsie!!"
In Fall 2019, hundreds of families received the first ever Toonsie Toy: the toy that plays any song. Invented by a mom, Toonsie is an open-ended audio toy that allows young children to play their favorite song without a screen, without wifi, and without any apps or software.
In this high-tech era, new low-tech innovation can be a real kid-pleaser. With one easy-to-press button, this toy lets children as young as 12 months old play their favorite song. First, a caregiver records the audio from their smartphone or any other player through the headphone jack. The Toonsie comes with a cable to connect and record up to 200 seconds (over 3 minutes) of audio. The recording process is extremely simple; no need to download any apps or software.
The Toonsie was born a few years ago when Rana McLaughlin's daughter was a toddler. Rana noticed that her daughter wanted to sing the same song for a week or two before a new one took its place as her new favorite. This usually meant playing the song on her smartphone. So Rana looked for a toy that would allow her child to play a song herself. She was surprised to find very few options. There were MP3 players for preschool aged children, but they had too many buttons and were still too complicated for a toddler to use.
Inspired, Rana began to dream about what she could build to fill this need. At the time, the Toonsie was still just a dream; just a "what-if" in the back of Rana's mind. Then a couple years later, when Rana's second child was about a year old, she once again looked for a toy that could play his favorite song ("Wheels on the Bus," which he requested multiple times a day). And still, there was nothing available for a very young child. So Rana decided to do something about it and created the very first Toonsie prototype, and her kids loved it!
Toonsies are now in stock and reviews pour into Rana's inbox every day. Nothing makes her happier than seeing young children discovering how to play their favorite song all by themselves.
