LOS ANGELES - Oct. 10, 2019 - PRLog -- The Screamfest Film Festival, known for hosting some of the best horror content from around the world, claims the LA premiere of a new horror comedy "Killer Date" - directed by Colton Tran (Disney's "Cloud 9") and staring/created by Joey Beni ("Godzilla: King of the Monsters") and Brandon Shypkowski ("Weather Talk").

"Killer Date" opens with Ed Larson (Beni) chasing a damsel in distress through a deserted junkyard, played by Victoria Moroles ("Teen Wolf"). Audiences assume the entire film will follow this '90's slasher' style, but Ed's strange internal monologue shows viewers the film is just as much comedic as it is bloody.

The storyline is balanced by Jeffrey Palmer (Shypkowski), a young wealthy inheritancee, Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. The two cross paths at a bar, where Ed asks Jeffrey on a date with the intent of making him his next victim.

It's not every day that a horror film with characters similar to Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer would take an LGBT angle like this, but it was important to the creators that this project step outside of the typical horror formula. "I had just finished making a film that was serious. I wanted my next project to be more on the comedic side. Joey wanted horror and I wanted funny so we figured we'd combine the two," says Shypkowski. Brandon was also recently nominated for best Supporting Actor at FilmQuest for "Killer Date."

The film was directed by Colton Tran, most known for directing the web-series "What's Next For Sarah" staring Jennette McCurdy ("iCarly"), and the music video "The Girl and the Dreamcatcher" with Broadway's Ryan McCartan and Daytime Emmy-winner Dove Cameron ("Descendants"). He was introduced to the project by actor/producer Mike C. Manning ("Teen Wolf"). Manning also appears in "Killer Date" along with Cathy Marks ("American Horror Story"), Joseph Winford Warren ("SMILF") and Julia Black ("Were the World Mine"). "I'm really proud of how the film ended up and I think people will enjoy it. For me, I wanted to create something unique, entertaining with a social statement," says Beni.

The film was produced by Chhibber Mann Productions, and will continue playing the film festival circuit for several months, with future award nominations that include: Best Actor, Best Score, Best Script, Best Director and Best Film.
