Follow on Google News | Chinook Celebrates Inclusion Through Community CelebrationChinook Enterprises sponsors Movie Night to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month
By: Chinook Enterprises Chinook is celebrating the creation of 42 new local jobs in the last 20 months for people with barriers. "This raises the total to 1170 since 1980," said Chinook's President, Steve Reed, "We have a lot to be thankful for and felt a 'movie night' was a great way to express our gratitude." Nationally, people with disabilities experience a 65% higher unemployment rate compared to their able-bodied counterparts. Chinook works with companies to chip away at this under-employment trend. "Employers in our community need help filling open positions; especially those that are entry-level. Our services offer many candidates with different abilities that quite often make a perfect match," explained Lisa Fisher, Vice President of Program Services. The number of new jobs is one of the many metrics tracked by Chinook. Notable 2018 metrics include the total number of people served (174), total annual wages ($378,500), and the number of companies employing those supported by Chinook (66). "The opportunity for a person to find employment or to simply give back in a meaningful way touches many lives and supports a community at its core," said Fisher. "We're hoping the community comes to help us celebrate on October 10th." Chinook Enterprises extends an open invitation to its first-ever 'Movie Night' on October 10th.
