SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Oct. 2, 2019 - PRLog -- Registration is now open for a half-day seminar on the divorce process geared toward mental health professionals.

"Family Law 101 and The Mental Health Professional: The Marital Dissolution," presented by the Sacramento Collaborative Practice Group (SCPG), will educate mental health professionals on various aspects of divorce. The course will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, Oct. 18 at  Valley Hi Country Club (9595 Franklin Blvd) in Elk Grove.

The Marital Dissolution is targeted specifically toward Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) and Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) in the Sacramento and Northern California region who are looking to expand their knowledge of collaborative divorce and mediation as alternatives to divorce litigation. The course qualifies for three hours of continuing education credits as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

The seminar will cover general concepts and process options including:
- the marriage dissolution process from petition filing to marital settlement agreement or trial;
- the differences between litigation, mediation, and collaborative divorce;
- requests for orders (RFOs) during a divorce and how they are used;
- the differences between temporary and permanent restraining orders;
- the different types of custody and the importance of child custody recommending counseling (CCRC), also known as custody mediation; and
- how the mental health professional's perspective and skills apply to the process and can benefit clients.

Local experts from SCPG will present at the seminar, including Hal Bartholomew, JD, CFLS; Beverly Brautigam, CPA, MBA, PFS; Amber Hall, JD; Deni Deutsch Marshall LCSW, BCD and Betsey Williams, MS, LMFT.

"This seminar will help mental health practitioners learn how to help clients resolve disputes respectfully without going to court," said Hal Bartholomew, past president of SCPG. "This is an excellent way for LMFTs and LCSWs to deepen their knowledge of the collaborative divorce process while also earning continuing education credits."
