Environmental podcast festival debuts in Colorado Springs

Local podcast collective invites the public to join the live audience, ask questions, and provide comments

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Oct. 2, 2019 - PRLog -- Are you concerned about the safety and quality of the water you drink, the food you eat, or the electricity you use? Area residents are invited to join the audience, ask questions, and offer comments at three environmental panel presentations October 19. Studio 809, the Pikes Peak region's community podcast collective, will record three episodes of the Peak Environment podcast in front of a live audience in the first Peak Environment Podfest, co-hosted by Studio 809 Podcasts and Stargazers Theatre & Event Center on October 19 from noon to 4.

Three expert panels will discuss:
Groundwater Contamination (firefighting foam)
Making Local Food Flourish
Energy Future of Colorado Springs

Colorado Senator Pete Lee will moderate the Groundwater Contamination panel. These panels are very timely, owing to:

1) Groundwater in the area of the U.S. Air Force Academy has recently been found to contain PFAS contaminants similar to the experience of the Fountain/Widefield/Security area.

2) Colorado Springs Utilities is developing a new Electric Integrated Resource Plan (EIRP) to guide the citizen-owned utility in its selection of electricity generation resources.

The panels will provide updated information on these issues.

Six area nonprofits partner to produce the Peak Environment podcast at Studio 809:
Green Cities Coalition
Peak Alliance for a Sustainable Future
Pikes Peak Environmental Forum
Pikes Peak Group of Sierra Club
Pikes Peak Library District Green Team
Pikes Peak Permaculture

Representatives of these organizations will be at the event to answer questions and share information about their initiatives. Details at https://www.facebook.com/events/1085386651814268/
