Meet a service-dog-in-training with Paws for Purple Hearts and the Petco Foundation at Petco

SAN ANTONIO - Sept. 30, 2019 - PRLog -- Paws for Purple Hearts (PPH) invites the public to meet 4 service-dogs-in-training at Petco to raise awareness of their life-changing work.

WHAT: Guests will learn about the transformative impact that service animals have on lives every day.

WHEN: Saturday, October 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE: Petco: 13909 Nacogdoches STE 107, San Antonio, TX 78217

WHY: The event coincides with the Petco Foundation's annual Helping Heroes campaign (Oct. 5 – 27) which supports service, therapy and working animals. The Petco Foundation has proudly invested more than $14 million to support these animals who work to save and improve lives across the nation and world.

About Paws for Purple Hearts

Paws for Purple Hearts dramatically improves the lives of our nation's Warriors facing mobility impairments and challenges such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) resulting from service-related stressors. We provide Canine-Assisted Warrior Therapy® in which we teach Warriors to train service dogs for their injured comrades- hence our motto: Warriors helping Warriors®.

Our highly structured hands-on therapy sessions are led by our program instructors and help mitigate the symptoms of PTSD and other trauma-related conditions. We conduct sessions at our facility and at partner organization sites like VA and DoD facilities including the Audie Murphy Memorial VA Hospital, Austin VA Outpatient Clinic, and Center for the Intrepid at Brooke Army Medical Center. Once trained, the dogs are placed as Service Dogs with Veterans who have mobility or trauma-related issues. All of Paws for Purple Hearts' programs and dogs are provided at no charge.
