The driver of the car (a Mercury Marquis) that was struck initially was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident and others sustained injuries which were thought to be non-life threatening at the time. Officials continued to investigate to determine if the driver who sped through the red light may have been impaired.
While we can't speculate as to why the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident was speeding or ran a red light, the loss of life because of the negligent actions of another person is heart-wrenching. Was the driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time? Could it be that the motorist was simply driving recklessly but not impaired? Regardless, the family of the deceased motorist deserves resolution.
There are countless reasons accidents occur. In some cases the motorist who caused an accident may have been talking on a cell phone, texting, eating, putting out a cigarette, or even engaging in a conversation with passengers. It is critical that motorists concentrate on ONE thing when navigating Kansas City roadways - driving safely. Otherwise, the outcome can be tragic as is evident in this case.
When a loved one is injured or loses his/her life in a car accident caused by the negligence of someone else, the victim and family deserve justice.
