LONG BEACH, Calif. - Sept. 25, 2019 - PRLog -- Attorneys Stephen M. Garcia and William M. Artigliere of Garcia & Artigliere have filed a claim against Anaheim Healthcare Center, LLC and Sun Mar Rehabilitation Services, LLC on behalf of plaintiff Ashraf Aziz. The plaintiff is seeking justice and restitution based on two causes of action: elder abuse and negligent hiring and supervision. The complaint describes how the plaintiff suffered life-threating injuries and infections because the defendants intentionally understaffed and underfunded the facility, illicitly siphoned funds for personal gain, and failed to train and supervise their neglectful nursing staff.

The Anaheim Healthcare Center is a 24/7 nursing and rehabilitation facility located in Anaheim, California. Over the years, this facility has been repeatedly cited for safety violations and quality of care deficiencies by the Department of Public Health. Even so, the defendants continue to violate state and federal nursing home laws to generate revenue and maximize the facility's daily profitability.

Ashraf Aziz was admitted as a resident of this nursing home facility in November 2016. Because the plaintiff had suffered a stroke earlier that year, he was dependent on the hospital staffers and lacked the means of protecting himself against health and safety hazards. For three years, the plaintiff suffered neglect that resulted in stage IV pressure sores (bed sores), serious fall injuries, and recurrent dehydration and urinary tract infections.

For example, in September 2017, the plaintiff was placed on a feeding tube because the staffers failed to deliver fundamental rehabilitative services, including speech therapy. Between May and April of 2018, the plaintiff was hospitalized twenty times because the staffers ignored the family's repeated requests for timely and proper catheter care. Six months later, the plaintiff was taken to Anaheim Regional Hospital after he fell out of bed and suffered a head injury. Upon readmittance, he relied on the staffers for essential custodial care services, including turning and repositioning, hydration and nutrition, dressing and bathing, toileting assistance, and medication management. The family removed Mr. Aziz from Anaheim Healthcare Center after noticing unexplained bruises, skin tears, and an open pressure wound on the plaintiff's body. The facility never notified the plaintiff's family or physician about the skin wounds, a blatant violation of California law.
