Vintage And Rare Posters Go Up For Auction
Some say this auction includes one of the most desirable posters in the world.
By: PASHCO POSTERS
The castle was used for a range of musical events including Tom Jones and Green Day. And of course this leads us to the 1973 Rolling Stones concert event that was eventually CANCELLED!
There are multiple reasons floating around, including that the concert was cancelled because Keith Richards had to be hospitalized to recoup from drug overindulgences. Another rumor was the cancellation was due to an outbreak of Puritanism by the local government, and that the Welsh authorities did not want to corrupt local youth! Either way - the bulk of the posters were destroyed. Some have stated that around 15 to 20 originals (this being one of them) exist in nice condition.
The original poster was printed beautifully in five colors: the normal four-color process plus a fifth layer of solid silver ink for the border and lettering. The overall effect is stunning — and you know it's an original as the reprints lack this silver finish. The original poster was printed on very thin white stock and measures 20" x 30".
The extreme rarity of this poster led to a smaller and poorly produced bootleg. The silver ink on the bootleg is more of a gray color and the entire poster lacks a pop you see when you get them side by side. This poster was later reprinted in an even smaller size by Muiscom in a numbered edition of 5,000. These are also poorly printed and highly pixilated.
This poster is framed in an amazing setting - worthy of a castle itself. We have not certified that it has acid free paper or museum UV glass, but all signs point to the fact that this prior owner took care when archiving this rare piece.
But there is so much more vintage posters and ephemera including Fillmore, Avalon Family Dog posters, Grateful Dead, Bealtes Boutique and other vintage music-related posters.
