RICHMOND, Va. - Sept. 21, 2019 - PRLog -- Bionic Lift, LLC, a veteran owned & operated small business, is a national security-focused technology innovation company bringing technology to the warfighter.  Bionic Lift recently announced they have been awarded an AFWERX Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract from the U.S. Air Force for an upper-body, non-powered exoskeleton. Bionic Lift is focused on helping solve U.S. Air Force mission needs by improving workforce productivity, enhancing endurance, reducing fatigue and reducing workplace injuries, thus increasing Air Force readiness.

AFRL and AFWERX have partnered to streamline the SBIR process in an attempt to speed up the experience, broaden the pool of potential applicants and decrease bureaucratic overhead. Beginning in SBIR 18.2, and now in 19.2, the Air Force has begun offering 'Special' SBIR topics that are faster, leaner and open to a broader range of innovations.

Bionic Lift is an authorized representative and dealer/distributor of Skelex exoskeleton suits and performs research & development, industry analysis, sales, marketing, and process improvement through exoskeleton use.  Additionally, Bionic Lift assists organizations with innovation by using their awareness of customer needs gained during active duty service in the military and industry.

Bionic Lift CEO, USAF Brigadier General (ret) Carl Buhler stated "within the U.S. military, hundreds of thousands of maintenance, logistics, and support personnel—uniformed and civilian—perform a myriad of daily tasks involving repetitive motion, as well as awkward lateral and overhead arm & shoulder movement, often in difficult environments. The subsequent loss of productivity, due to worker fatigue and injury, has an adverse impact on readiness & costs."

Bionic Lift COO, USAF Chief Master Sergeant (ret) Greg Bernitt added "exoskeletons are a reliable way companies can help prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Exoskeletons are a means to augment the human weapon system with personal protective equipment."

Bionic Lift is also honored to be invited to serve as a technology demonstrator for the October 22, 2019 Defense Innovation Symposium in Dayton, Ohio.
