Airplane Noise Complaints About Montreal Trudeau Airport Up 1,485% (June 30, 2019)

MONTREAL - Sept. 20, 2019 - PRLog -- MONTREAL-dB, the non-profit organization which operates the AEROplainte.ca app, recorded 5,325 airplane noise complaints in the first 6 months of 2019, compared to 336 complaints recorded and published by the Aéroport de Montréal (ADM), for the same period last year.  This represents an increase of 1,485% (as of June 30, 2019).

All complaints made with the AEROplainte app are sent by users to the ADM email complaint line at info@admtl.com and are recorded by the ADM. AEROplainte only tracks complaints from opt-in users, therefore, we expect that the number, that will eventually be published by the ADM, will be higher.

The AEROplainte app actually recorded a total 22,422 complaints from its 135 opt-in users in the first 6 months of 2019. While all complaints are valid, the data was normalized due to one data point which represents over 17,000 complaints, or 94 complaints a day. The ADM has not published any complaint data for 2019.

The ADM has historically under-reported its noise complaints because it only counted 1 complaint per person, per day. After the AEROplainte app was launched, the ADM changed its policy and has been reporting all complaint data since October 2018 as all other major airports in Canada.
